It's been a (really) long time...

This website has been established in the fall of 1998. That has been almost 12 years ago. A lot of water under the bridge… and then some.

What have we seen? What have we been living through? There’s comrades we’ve lost. There’s friends we’ve found. And there was Southside Johnny all along, all the time.

Now, as Johnny is about to present his newest, and maybe truest album yet, in just a couple of weeks, this webmaster will retire.

No, I won’t be taking down the site – at least not as long as I can afford the few bucks/euros it cost to pay for the server! There is so much wonderful work of so many people which shall not be lost under any circumstances. But there won’t be any regular updates anymore. It will be just an archive where I will continue to post, what people are sending me every once in a while. And it will continue to exist as part of (my) history…

In the Neighborhood: PEER BLUES, Belgium, July 19, 2009

news_peer_blues_small
The first festival stop of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes in Europe since Ospel, Netherlands in 1999 will be happening this weekend in the City of Peer in Belgium.

Under the – more than appropriate – title: “25 Years of Kings and Legends”, Southside will share the bill on next Sunday with John Mayall, Roger McGuinn and Jeff Beck…

Johnny and the band will play Sunday 20:00 – 21:30.

Other artists on the festival schedule include (among others): Joe Bonamassa, Mike Sanchez, Steve Winwood and John Fogerty.

The weather forecast seems to be great for Sunday and – if you don’t want to go home on Sunday and stay for Fogerty on Monday night, the camp facilities are just ready!

Day / Weekend / Festival tickets are available at the box office.

This is definitely going to be a line-up right out of my Rock & Roll book of dreams!

Bandiera Brings Back The Music Of Roy Orbison

CentralJersey.comFriday, May 15, 2009 10:27 AM EDT, By Anthony Stoeckert,

Bobby Bandiera says he had no interest in organizing tribute concerts when Numa Saisselin, CEO of the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, approached him with the idea in 2005. Mr. Bandiera wanted to continue playing with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, touring with bands like Bon Jovi, and writing and recording his own songs.

But Mr. Saisselin was persistent. He wanted Jersey musicians to perform tributes to rock ‘n’ roll legends at the Count Basie, and was convinced that Mr. Bandiera had the connections and musical knowledge to make them happen.

Mr. Bandiera eventually said he’d do it if he could decide which artists would be honored at the concerts. Mr. Saisselin said that was fine, until Mr. Bandiera told him his first choice was Roy Orbison. Mr. Saisselin was thinking of a bigger name, like the Rolling Stones.

First UK Gig 2009 Revealed

The O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London is offering tickets for Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes Friday, November 20 on their priority ticketing portal already!

I’m not sure how much the promoter is jumpin’ the gun here – and if the show is going to happen, since it is yet not announced on SSJ official tour page. The ticketing portal is legit – and as it looks, this is the first announcement for this year’s crusade of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes conquering Brittain and Mainland Europe…

(Not really a) New Album!

New Jersey CollectionIn 2009, LEROY RECORDS, Southside Johnny’s own record label will celebrate it’s 10th anniversary. This does also mark the 10th anniversary of Johnny’s major comeback as a recording artist after his long break since his 1991 release BETTER DAYS.

Four original albums and two wonderful collections of previously unreleased material (MESSIN’ WITH THE BLUES, GOING TO JUKESVILLE, INTO THE HARBOR, GRAPEFRUIT MOON, MISSING PIECES, THE JUKESBOX), that’s as much, if not much more, as what Southside has produced in any of the previous decades of his long recording career. The thing is:

This decade is not over yet!

So here’s the scoop:
