He may be a little old for me (I was 8 when he released his first album), but I've got a little crush...

Last night I went with Hub and friends to see Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes at the Ram's Head Tavern and Music Hall in Annapolis, MD. And I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY.

I've always liked SSJ's music. I've owned several of their albums for years, but never really followed them closely. They've always been part of my "Jersey Shore" rotation, though, along with The Boss and you-know-who.

When someone has had serious praise (and a sackload of songs) from Bruce Springsteen and he’s described by Jon Bon Jovi as the reason he got into music, you know there has to be a story there. The man in question is John Lyon, or Southside Johnny, and he’s aided and abetted by the Asbury Jukes...

By Paul S from Cardiff - November 2, 2009, The Globe, Cardiff

Either I'd forgotten just how good a Southside Johnny gig can be or he got even better! There were a few changes from the last time I saw Southside: a little more facial hair, the trademark shades being discarded early on, and the ever changing line up of the Asbury Jukes.

But much remained the same, including great musicianship from the eight strong backing band, featuring a strong horns section...

ASBURYJUKES.NET - 31.OCTOBER 2009 - The trip from Amsterdam's IBIS Hotel to Den Haag's IBIS Hotel was as smooth as it could be.

Empty Dutch motorways are a real treat for somebody who's used to the Autobahn... and the rush hour as such. Den Haag, is a place where Johnny has been the last time more than 10 years ago, playing the Koniginnen Naach Festival in 1999 on his comeback semi-acoustic tour.
