It’s been a (really) long time…

This website has been established in the fall of 1998. That has been almost 12 years ago. A lot of water under the bridge… and then some.

What have we seen? What have we been living through? There’s comrades we’ve lost. There’s friends we’ve found. And there was Southside Johnny all along, all the time.

Now, as Johnny is about to present his newest, and maybe truest album yet, in just a couple of weeks, this webmaster will retire.

No, I won’t be taking down the site – at least not as long as I can afford the few bucks/euros it cost to pay for the server! There is so much wonderful work of so many people which shall not be lost under any circumstances. But there won’t be any regular updates anymore. It will be just an archive where I will continue to post, what people are sending me every once in a while. And it will continue to exist as part of (my) history…

Pulling the plug on regular updates doesn’t mean leaving for good. It just means that I realized I can’t do justice anymore to what John & the band represent. I tried to keep the site up-to-date, to keep it comprehensive and to cover as much of the things happening online and elsewhere with the band we love so much. I can’t keep that standard anymore.

This website can’t fulfil it’s mission anymore, when the webmaster is too occupied with life in it’s other dimensions.

I had the time of my life, following the Jukes. I found friends for life, through the Jukes. I wouldn’t be the person I am, I wouldn’t live where I live, I wouldn’t do, what I am doing… all of that would have never happened without this website…

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone I’ve met on the trip! All the amazing artists, writers, photographers, and all the friends which you find on this website. There’s so many names, and there are so many more faces I remember… far too many to be mentioned. BUT YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

I’ve seen my first show at the Rockpalast Festival, at the Grugahalle in my hometown of Essen, Germany in October 1979 and the last one at the Paard van Trooje in The Hague, The Netherlands in October 2009… and there’s always going to be be a next show… Weert, Melle, Amsterdam, Asbury Park. Who knows?

Thanks for the journey to Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes!
For friendship, fun, family… and fucking formidable festivities!

Raise your glass for the comrades we’ve lost
My friend it’s been a long, long time

your loyal servant,
Klaus

  1. This is sad news. You stuck with us when we needed you. Thank you for your hard work and passion–it has not been lost on me or the other Jukes- past or present. Hey, why don’t you compromise a bit and make a couple more updates the next couple of months–in return, I’ll lobby (no! I’ll make it happen) that we name our European Dressing Room “The Klaus Boettger Honorary European Dressing Room” for the Fall 2010 Jukes Tour.

There is no other band that understands change more than the Jukes, so I wish you great luck in the future.

Thanks again, your friend Jeff Kazee

  2. “We lived in a time and a world of our own” – I am sad about readin this-but I want to say a big thank you to you Klaus. A few years ago your homepage was my start into Jukesville and I always loved to come back to it. Thanks for doin this great job! I hope you will be able to open this door to this special world called Jukesville now and then again…Yes, there are many changes around and I really dont like all of them but like you said “there´s always goin to be a next show” and I hope to see you somewhen somewhere on the road again…take care!
