ASBURYJUKES.NET – July 19, 2009 – Allright… this gallery is big – as the show was – please be patient until it is loaded completely! Think Blues, think Belgium, think Peer, think John Mayall and then… Southside Johnny’s best and da Jukes…
Well… This won’t be anything close to a review, and please don’t expect a setlist either, ’cause we really had a B_L_A_S_T! And then some!
What has probably been the most unusual Jukes show in Europe since Southside’s semi-accoustic return 1999, has really been one of the best I have ever witnessed. It’s been a short (just 98 minutes) but heavy blues show with some of the highest density, sheer power and also the spirit and the will of all on stage and their frontman to really win this massive crowd of a couple of thousand Belgians and the little myself.
By now, it is 03:06 in the morning, It’s been a long drive through all the rain a summer Sunday night can pour over the Belgian, Dutch and German Autobahn. I better back down for some hours now… Tired but still high on adrenaline.
Them Jukes (all except one) are now almost on their way back over the pond. Their adrenaline should last for a great series of summer shows in and around New Jersey and the East Coast.
See youse in October! Can’t wait!
Good night everybody,
Klaus (& Gundula)

Great Job on the pictures! And thanks for the beers last night!
PB
Klaus, I did not know you were goint to the festival! I was there too! I am sorry that we did not meet! The beer was good indeed! Thank you for the pictures and the video. They are really great! Were you in the pit the whole show? The pictures indeed look like that!
One question: Who was playing the guitar with Southside Johnny? It was not Bobby Bandiera, but, man, was he good!
Maybe I will come to Melle. I have my Paradiso tickets on my board already!
CU & take care,
Henk
Henk, Gundula and I didn’t know we’d be going to Peer until just Friday before. But we’re certainly glad we made the trip! As for your question: the guitar player this time was Glen Alexander, a regular with La Bamba’s Big Band for many years and also quite a close friend to the Jukes who did play a lot with them over the last couple of years in/on various projects and occasions. Most recently, Glen did most of the guitar work on GRAPEFRUIT MOON with Southside and La Bamba.
A great guy he is!
